Grand Canyon Lightning Storm Wallpaper illustrates one of the seven wonders of the world. It is located in northern Arizona. The Grand Canyon is a huge mass of red rock. The Colorado River flows at the base of this massive wonder. The climate there is very diverse. In summer the weather can reach up to one-hundred degrees. In winter the temperature can fall to zero. Bolts of lightning from a summer storm can light up the entire canyon. Mother Nature provides an electrifying show!

Haleakala National Park Hawaii Wallpaper

Holly Rothbard — Sat, 14 Mar 2015 04:00:00 +0000

This Haleakala National Park wallpaper captures Maui’s “house of the sun” mid-flex — a valley of red, gold, and gray cinder cones that looks like Mars borrowed Earth’s color palette for a day. Here’s the twist: the NPS points out that Haleakalā’s famous “crater” isn’t technically a crater at all — it’s a valley, carved out by water and landslides long after the original crater eroded away. Fourteen of those cinder cones still dot the floor, each one built when a lava fountain hardened around its own base.

Haleakala National Park Wallpaper — A Valley Playing Crater

Geologists know the truth, tour guides don’t always bother correcting it, and honestly, “crater” just sounds better. For the version of this landscape that never had to apologize for its terminology, the painted Cranes Over the Crater Painting Wallpaper is happy to keep pretending. More real-world peaks in our Mountains collection.

NYC Pigeons View Wallpaper

Holly Rothbard — Fri, 20 Feb 2015 05:00:00 +0000

This NYC Pigeons View Wallpaper flips the script entirely — instead of photographing New York’s skyline, it shows Manhattan the way a pigeon sees it every day, from a high ledge above the mist with skyscrapers fading into a sepia haze below. The rock pigeon (Columba livia) is one of the most successful urban birds on earth. Cornell Lab’s All About Birds notes colonists introduced pigeons from Europe to North America in the early 1600s, where they have thrived in cities ever since, exploiting building ledges as stand-ins for the cliff faces they originally nested on. New York has approximately one million of them – and almost nobody ever looks at the city from their point of view, much like the cliff faces where they naturally nest.

Glacier National Park Wallpaper

Holly Rothbard — Fri, 06 Feb 2015 05:00:00 +0000

Glacier National Park Wallpaper pictures a remarkable area.

Glacier National Park, in Montana, encompasses over one million acres. It includes two mountain ranges, part of the Rockies, as well as more than 130 lakes. There are over 1,000 species of plants and animals in the park. Inhabitants include grizzlies, moose, mountain goats, wolverines, and Canadian lynx. There were about 150 glaciers in the region, but by 2010 only 25 remained. Sadly, it is estimated that if the present climate patterns continue, all the glaciers may disappear by 2020!

Nighttime Miami Fl Skyline Wallpaper

Holly Rothbard — Sun, 17 Aug 2014 04:00:00 +0000

Nighttime Miami Fl Skyline Wallpaper takes me to Watson Island, Florida to view the incredible Miami skyline at night. The McArthur causeway looms out all lit up in neon lights. This bridge leads to downtown Miami and its awesome buildings. The tallest building in the city is the 64 story Four Seasons Hotel and Tower. Coming into view also is the Southeast Financial Center, and The Freedom Tower, an icon of the city, is Miami’s most famous skyscraper built in 1925. What a magnificent picture at dusk!

Aurora Borealis Alaska Wallpaper

Holly Rothbard — Tue, 12 Aug 2014 04:00:00 +0000

Aurora Borealis Alaska Wallpaper amazes us with a spectacular picture of the northern lights. Aurora Borealis or Northern Lights were named in 1619 by Galileo, for the Roman goddess of dawn, Aurora, and the Greek name for the north wind, Boreas. An aurora is caused by energy particles from the sun colliding with the Earth’s magnetic field. The Aurora is part of life in Alaska. The Northern Lights can be viewed as far south as Juneau. In the months from December to March when the nights are the longest and the sky the darkest, Aurora Borealis is the most striking and brightest.

Antelope Canyon-Arizona Wallpaper

Holly Rothbard — Wed, 30 Jul 2014 04:00:00 +0000

Antelope Canyon-Arizona Wallpaper captures my attention. Such a mystical sight to see a beam of sunlight cutting through the striking 2 halves of the canyon! The spectacular orange, red, and brown sandstone produces a peaceful reverence. This slot canyon is sacred to the Navajo people who named the 2 parts. Upper Antelope Canyon is called “The Crack” and Lower Antelope Canyon is called “The Corkscrew.” Forces of water, wind and climate changes created this cathedral of shapes known by the Navajos as “the place where water runs through the rocks.“ Antelope Canyon is a unique work of art conceived by nature!!
