Medinet Habu Thebes Painting Wallpaper
This Medinet Habu painting wallpaper is David Roberts’s tinted lithograph of the ancient mortuary temple complex on the west bank of the Nile at Thebes. He published this in his landmark series Egypt and Nubia between 1845 and 1849. The composition looks out across a flat sandy plain toward the white temple buildings. The great Theban mesa rises in warm terracotta behind them and, a camel caravan crosses the foreground in quiet procession. Ramesses III built the temple itself in the 12th century BC. It remains one of the best-preserved ancient Egyptian temple complexes, its outer walls still bearing painted relief records of the Pharaoh’s military campaigns.
